I was delighted to see a story on kwtv channel nine last night about the need for more workers in the oilfield (and gasfield). There is apparently an immediate need for 700 or more workers in the industry at very good wages. When the reporter, Amy Lester, signed off she said "...reporting from Sweetwater, Oklahoma."

Much is happening in Sweetwater, Oklahoma. More and more traffic is headed toward Sweetwater and around Sweetwater everyday. If the state really wanted to do something to help the state they would support this industry by immediately improving the roadways. Don't wait ten years to complete the four laning of the highway between Woodward and Altus do it now. In addition, lay another two lane highway immediately from Elk City to the Texas state line on Hwy 6 to make it four lane. Ten, twenty, thirty years or if ever will be too late to help support this industry. Do something proactive that will really help the economy and do it now.

Why is there excess money at this point in the state coffers? It is not because of a lottery. It is because of the oil and gas industry. If we want that money to keep rolling in, if we want more money for education, if we want more industry of every kind, more jobs of every kind, see rural western Oklahoma reinvigorated? the only way to really do that is to support the oil and gas industry in this state and do so vigorously. I hope our politicians wake up and do something really good for this state before they once again waste the opportunity that they have been given.
