We had seven inches of snow at Sweetwater that was measurable. Some to the north also had seven inches and had one report of six inches. J.E. McGuire reported that they had nine inches of snow at their house.

Sent several photos of the snow to the local TV channels and one of the huge snowflakes to CNN. CNN showed the photo of the huge snowflakes repeatedly Saturday afternoon and evening. However, by the end of the day Rick Sanchez was doubting that the snowflakes were very large. You can judge for yourself how large the snowflakes were by looking at the photo at http://www.theburningbush.org/sweetwaterphotos.html

Toward the top of the photo against the background of the bricks of the house you will see very plainly two huge snowflakes. Other large flakes can be see above the house and to the right side of the house.

KOCO also showed the photo I took Friday of the Haliburton truck trapped on our church parking lot on the ice that still was there Friday morning. The truck had attempted to turn around and had become trapped. He was spinning his wheels again and again but was unable to escape until later in the day.

No church this morning and most likely not tonight although Don Roberts and Bennie Wayne are clearing off the parking lot.

If you have news that is Sweetwater related of any kind email me at wrather@dobsonteleco.com. There is apparently an immediate need for 700 or more workers in the industry at very good wages. When the reporter, Amy Lester, signed off she said "...reporting from Sweetwater, Oklahoma."

Much is happening in Sweetwater, Oklahoma. More and more traffic is headed toward Sweetwater and around Sweetwater everyday. If the state really wanted to do something to help the state they would support this industry by immediately improving the roadways. Don't wait ten years to complete the four laning of the highway between Woodward and Altus do it now. In addition, lay another two lane highway immediately from Elk City to the Texas state line on Hwy 6 to make it four lane. Ten, twenty, thirty years or if ever will be too late to help support this industry. Do something proactive that will really help the economy and do it now.

Why is there excess money at this point in the state coffers? It is not because of a lottery. It is because of the oil and gas industry. If we want that money to keep rolling in, if we want more money for education, if we want more industry of every kind, more jobs of every kind, see rural western Oklahoma reinvigorated? the only way to really do that is to support the oil and gas industry in this state and do so vigorously. I hope our politicians wake up and do something really good for this state before they once again waste the opportunity that they have been given.

If you have news that is Sweetwater related of any kind email me at wrather@dobsonteleco.com. He was buried at the Buffalo Cemetery. Pete was a long time resident of the Sweetwater area living northwest of the town of Sweetwater.

In about 1959, the Myers family experienced a devastating blow when a tornado destroyed there herd of cattle leaving only one cow alive. Their home was also destroyed by the tornado. All they had left was $40.00 found in Pete's bilfold which somehow was still laying in the area of the fireplace that was partly standing. The Mennonites from Corn, Oklahoma came and rebuilt their home.

Pete had lived in an Elk City nursing home since 1999. His wife, Mildred, passed away in 1991.

If you have news that is Sweetwater related of any kind email me at wrather@dobsonteleco.com. Meal be at 6pm followed by the Fun House and candy give away. The Fun House was a tremendous success last year as many dressed as Bible characters and each had a few lines to say as the kids came by and then handed out candy. Looking forward to another great event this year. Everyone is invited!

If you have news that is Sweetwater related of any kind email me at wrather@dobsonteleco.com.
