Heard this morning that Carolyn Davis is in the hospital in Elk City with pancreatitis. She has been there since Monday but is feeling a little better today.

Yesterday at the convention President Bush assured us that he supports the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman and is opposed to same sex marriages. Tonight Franklin Graham will be speaking and the Gaithers will be singing.

Hope you get rain soon. Here in Indiana it is raining this morning and there is flooding in parts of the state.

Of interest to some in Sweetwater is that Dr. Stan Coffey, a native of Sweetwater, gave a stirring nomination speech for nomination of the next President of the Southern Baptist National Pastor's Conference. Dr. Coffey nominated Terry Fox, Pastor of the Emmanual Baptist Church of Wichita, Kansas. However, Pastor Fox was not elected and Steve Gaines of Alabama is the next Pastor's Conference President. It was good to hear Dr. Coffey speak and it reminded me of the wonderful crusade we had here at Sweetwater several years ago with him.

Heard we still need rain in Sweetwater! We have been driving through rain for the past three days in Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, and Indiana. Missed the tornados in Missouri and Kentucky which we learned of after the fact. Heard some stirring messages and wonderful music at the Pastor's Conference of the Southern Baptist Convention tonight. Looking forward to tomorrow.

If you have been through the Sweetwater intersection recently you know that we almost have a traffic control problem. You would think setting at the intersection that you were at 3rd and Main in Elk City. Well, that is not really accurate because our intersection is more busy especially with trucks and oilfield equipment.

It may be time that the State of Oklahoma consider that Sweetwater is still part of the state and begin to upgrade the roadway from 14 mile corner to our intersection. It would surely be nice to have those wide shoulders on this side of 14 mile corner. It may even be time for an actual stoplight in Sweetwater!

Edmond Logan is in the hospital in Oklahoma City with diverticulitis. They will be doing a scope today. He is at Baptist Hospital room 833. The direct number for his room is 405.945.5833 and I'm sure he would appreciate your calls. I visited him this afternoon and he is doing better but still weak. Today was also the day of Leroy Bryan's execution which Charles and Linda were to attend along with Sharon and Lanette.

Yesterday I was surprised to see a prairie dog on the south side of our house. It was the first one that I have seen in years. We do have all kinds of varmits out here. I've seen turkeys, bobcats, prairie chickens, emus, a fox and one mountain lion from a distance. Two people have described what could only be a bear or bigfoot. I think I will go with the bear.

In the Daily Oklahoman yesterday was an interesting story about a mountain lion being killed by a train in eastern Oklahoma. The lion had been tagged with a radio transmitter in South Dakota and had apparently made it all the way down here. The game ranger they interviewed said it was the first documented case of a mountain lion being in Oklahoma in his 23 years. I have read about other game rangers in the past also saying there are no mountain lions in Oklahoma. To help to enlighten out game rangers perhaps as a mandatory part of training they should visit the museum at Cheyenne to view the mountain lion that is stuffed and mounted there.

Ruth Holland is still at the Jim Thorpe Rehap at Clinton but she may be allowed to go home in the near future. Ruth's grandson, Eddie Lee had a close call this morning in Oklahoma City. One driver died and according to NewsOK.com, "The driver of one of the vehicles (a pickup), Eddie Holland, suffered head and internal trunk injuries but was in good condition." The fatality was apparently caused by the inattention of a truck driver hitting a vehicle that had slowed down because of an accident.
